Application and Admission

Applications are only accepted via our application platform. It is a two-step application process where you first register your name and email address and then you recieve an automated email including an individual code for all further steps. During the application process (in step 2), you are welcome to inform us about three IMPRS research groups you are most interested in. The selection is not binding at this point.

+++  Application database is closed +++ Thank you all for your applications! +++

1. Registration

Initially, you will have to register on our REGISTRATION FORM (deadline apssed, database is closed). You will be asked to enter your name, a valid email address and some basic data. After submitting, you will receive a confirmation email which includes your personal registration code as well as the link to our Application Data Base. The personal registration code is required at several steps throughout the registration process. Please allow up to 10 minutes to receive the confirmation email.

2. Application

After receiving the automated email including the registration code, please follow the link to our Application Data Base. We recommend that you collect and prepare all information before starting the application process. Once started, you will have to complete all steps. Saving the data and continuing later is unfortunately not possible. Please use this PDF and the Checklist to see which information needs to be provided during the application process. After submitting your data, you will receive a confirmation letter. The confirmation email will contain a link for a scientific questionnaire which we kindly ask you to answer (this is part of your application process), as well as the link for the recommendation form. Please allow up to 10 minutes to receive the confirmation email.

Application deadline: January 31st.

3. Recommendation Letters

We ask for TWO recommendation letters. Once you have submitted your application, the confirmation email will include:

a) your personal registration code

b) the link to the recommendation form.

It is your responsibility to provide this information to two referees of your choice. The link will open a page where your referee can upload the recommendation letter file. You and the referee will both receive an email confirming the successful uploading of the recommendation letter.

Deadline: January 31st

CONGRATULATIONS! After passing through these three steps and providing all necessary documents, your application is complete and will be processed. Only complete applications will be accepted!

4. Invitation and Interviews

Based on the evaluation of the recruitment committee, the applicants will be short-listed and invited to attend the online IMPRS-MOB Recruitment Event in March. The applicants have personal interviews with faculty members and present their research project which they have conducted during their academic education. The shortlisted applicants have the opportunity to meet with other IMPRS students and the PhD committee to learn more about the program and other PhD-related topics at the onsite Recruitment Day in May. At the end of this event, applicants can name their favorite research group(s) and based on this selection, successful applicants will be matched with their research group of choice.

5. Admission

Applicants will be notified in given time after the recruitment event about the outcome of the selection process. Accepted PhD candidates can start their work any time during the year, depending on the agreement with the prospective research group.

The graduate program starts each year in October.
